The first successed birth of Rufous-fronted Laughingthrush

Published On Friday, August 30, 2013 By cikanangawlc. Under: CCBC.

On 28th September 2012 one new species of the bird arrived in Cikananga, the Garrulax rufifrons rufifrons. Until the 3rd November in the same year, we got three birds more. It means we have 2 males and 3 females. Then we prepared two couples for breeding. One couple of these got six clutches until May 2013. Every time they lost the eggs. One reason was a lot of rats in the aviaries and after to get this problem out (we caught two families of rats in this case. We counted 20 of them). Also we found out that the male throw out the eggs from the nest. So we decided to prepare two new couples.

After no more rats in the same aviary a new couple started in a short time a clutch with one egg. This chick hatched 25. of July 2013. Now it is in good condition and start to leave the nest. Never bread a species after arriving Cikananga in this short time. We are really proud of this success. We know now that we have a problem with the other male. Because they also had a clutch with two eggs. The male is so motivated that it wants to prepare the nest for the next clutch and for this it is throwing out the eggs from before. For the next time we will early enough separate the male.
