The Javan Leopard evacuated safely

Published On Tuesday, September 27, 2016 By cikanangawlc. Under: Home.

Wanicare, September 27, 2016 – The Javan Leopard has arrived safely at Cikananga Wildlife Rescue Center after a 7 hour journey. There is limited background, but this leopard walked into a village and ended up in a house, here the leopard was later sedated and evacuated by BKSDA officials. Some locals believe it might have been a pet, since the village in which he showed up was far from any forests, however his behavior shows otherwise. The leopard chewed through the bars of his first cage at the BKSDA office, therefore the initial cage was put in another cage to prevent him from breaking out. Although the first reports mentioned a collapsed leopard, we have no reason to believe that this leopard is ill and his body condition seems very good. But only after the leopard has settled down and a full medical exam is performed we will be able to confirm this and get detailed information on the condition.
This case is again proof of the importance of the Javan Leopard Release Programme, we will never give up the fight and will make sure that also this individual will be released back into the wild! Help us with this important mission to give the Critically Endangered Javan Leopard a future, spread the word or adopt a leopard.
