About Yayasan Cikananga Konservasi Terpadu (Cikananga Wildlife Center):

Yayasan Cikananga Konservasi Terpadu (YCKT), also known as Cikananga Wildlife Center, is a non-profit organization committed to the conservation of wildlife and its habitat in Indonesia. Established on August 27, 2001, Cikananga is divided into three branches: the Rescue Centre, the Conservation Breeding Centre, and the Sustainability Farming Program.

● The Rescue Centre (Pusat Penyelamatan Satwa Cikananga – PPSC): Focuses on rescuing and rehabilitating animals confiscated by the Indonesian Forestry Department. The Centre cares for around 250 animals from 57 different species, including mammals, birds, and reptiles, with numbers fluctuating based on government seizures.

● The Breeding Centre (Cikananga Conservation Breeding Centre – CCBC): Specializes in breeding five bird species and one pig species that are endemic to Indonesia and endangered, with the goal of protecting these species through captive breeding and reintroduction efforts.

● The Sustainability Farming Program (Program Pertanian Berkelanjutan Cikananga – PPBC): Established in 2020, this program focuses on food production, organic waste recycling, and compost production. It aims to help local farmers transition to regenerative agricultural practices and support habitat restoration through agroforestry.

POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a full-time Volunteer Coordinator to oversee our volunteer and internship program. We are looking for someone committed to significantly contributing to the program’s development. The Volunteer Coordinator will collaborate closely with the Enrichment Program Coordinator, as well as with staff members, including Managers, the Medical Team, Animal Keepers, and the Volunteer Program Supervisor offsite (Wanicare Foundation).
Key responsibilities include recruiting, training, and supervising volunteers and interns at the center.
This position offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in new cultures, educate others, and work with wildlife, while actively participating in the centres conservation, rehabilitation, and release efforts.

Responsibility of the volunteer coordinator:

  1. Primary Contact for Volunteers: Serve as the first point of contact for volunteer and intern inquiries. Manage volunteers and interns on-site and liaise with facility staff regarding the volunteer program.
  2. Volunteer Wellbeing: Oversee the wellbeing of volunteers and interns, addressing concerns in collaboration with management and the program supervisor throughout their stay.
  3. Creating a Positive Environment: Ensure a professional, safe, and welcoming environment for volunteers and interns, focusing on retention through recognition, regular communication, and relationship building.
  1. Task Identification: Work alongside local staff, including the Welfare Manager and Head Keeper, to assess the needs of the center and determine how volunteer and intern projects can be utilized effectively. Communicate with the Head Keeper and Welfare Coordinator to identify volunteer duties and center needs.
  2. Enrichment Program Support: Coordinate with the Enrichment Coordinator to determine volunteer requirements for Enrichment Programs and other related needs, and help with this program if needed.
  3. Volunteer/Intern Communication and Placement: Handle email communications with volunteers and interns, conduct interviews, and manage their placement through the volunteer booking system.
  4. Visa and Accommodation Coordination: Arrange payments for visa and accommodation costs, collect necessary documents for visa applications, and submit them to the administration officer for processing.
  5. Orientation and Training: Provide introductory presentations to new volunteer and intern groups, introduce them to their work, and assist with training. Ensure adherence to policies and procedures.
  6. Intern Assignment Oversight: Ensure that interns follow the required assignments from their universities or assigned by CWC, and assist them in meeting their internship goals.
  7. Contract Management: Oversee the signing of CWC volunteer/internship contracts and university agreements, and provide internship certificates and university assessment forms prior to departure.
  8. Weekly Meetings: Hold weekly meetings with volunteers and interns to ensure progress on assignments. Conduct individual check-ins with interns to discuss their assignments and provide supervision.
  9. Feedback Management: Collect and manage feedback from volunteers, interns, and staff, sharing it with Cikananga management and the Program Supervisor to highlight successes and suggest improvements (if necessary).
  10. Policy Review: Review volunteer management policies and procedures, providing recommendations for revisions as needed.
  11. Development of Internship Assignments: Collaborate with the Welfare Manager and Program Supervisor to develop new internship assignments, which may be published online.
  12. Volunteer Activities: Organize activities for volunteers, such as visits to waterfalls, caves,  national parks, or diners and evenings out.
  13. Supply Management and Facility Improvement: Regularly check and manage volunteer and intern supplies for both work and communal provisions. Additionally, regularly assess volunteer facilities to identify neatness,  any items that need replacement, improvement, or upkeep.
  14. Support for Other Groups: Assist, if necessary, with eco-tourism, education groups, or guest facilitation when necessary.
  15. Animal Care and Enclosure Management: Provide support in animal care and enclosure improvement when needed, assist in ensuring proper upkeep and attention to animal welfare, in collaboration of animal keepers, head-keeper and welfare manager.
  16. Program Development: Contribute to the continued development of the Volunteer & Internship program.

CONDITIONS:

  • Full time work, usually from 7 – 11.30 am and 1-4 pm for six days a week (one extra day off each month), flexibility as required and on-call availability for emergencies. Holidays are flexible and can be organized in consultation with associated members of staff.
  • Free shared accommodation (private room with access to a shared bathroom, kitchen, and living room, water, electricity and Wi-Fi) provided at YCKT.
  • Salary: 3.000.000 IDR per month to cover accommodation expenses, 1 free meal (dinner) a day.
    (Salary is reduced by 20% during the first 3 month of probation period). The salary will be reassessed after 1 year.
  • Visa costs, and once-a-year a flight ticket will be covered.

ANIMAL WELFARE MANAGER

CIKANANGA WILDLIFE CENTER

Cikananga Wildlife Center (Yayasan Cikananga Konservasi Terpadu) is seeking a passionate Animal Welfare Manager to join our dedicated team in Sukabumi Regency, West Java, Indonesia. CWC is a non-profit organization committed to the conservation of Indonesian wildlife and operates two main animal programs: the Cikananga Wildlife Rescue Center (PPSC) and the Cikananga Conservation Breeding Center (CCBC).

This position focuses on PPSC, which currently cares for around 250 animals from 57 species.  PPSC primarily receives animals confiscated from the illegal wildlife trade by the Indonesian Forestry Ministry. Many arrive in poor condition and require medical care and rehabilitation. Animals are then assessed for rehabilitation, release, or transfer to other institutions. This is a challenging but highly rewarding role for a motivated individual who wants to make a meaningful contribution to animal welfare and conservation.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Animal Welfare Manager oversees and coordinates PPSC operations and works closely with Animal Keepers, Veterinarians, Senior Management and the Volunteer and Enrichment Coordinators. This is a Senior Management position reporting to the Directorate of Yayasan Cikananga Konservasi Terpadu (YCKT).

The role contributes to long-term planning and development of conservation programs, animal welfare standards, animal husbandry, facilities, animal exit strategies and staff development.

1.           Supervise the Animal Keeper team and ensure animal care and welfare standards are developed, implemented and consistently followed.

2.           Supervise care and intake procedures for newly arrived animals.

3.           Conduct behavioural observations and welfare assessments to guide captive management.

4.           Collaborate with the Veterinary team in all aspects of hand-rearing rescued juveniles and orphaned animals of various taxa when required.

5.           Work closely with the Conservation Manager, Animal Keepers and Veterinary team on pre-release assessments prior to reintroduction to the wild.

6.           Collaborate with external organizations to develop appropriate exit strategies for animals.

7.           Design, organise and implement modifications to, and construction of, enclosures in collaboration with the Senior Management Team and Directorate.

8.           Supervise and support the Volunteer Coordinator in managing Interns and Volunteers, with an emphasis on animal-related projects and ensuring animal welfare.

9.           Supervise and support the Enrichment Coordinator in the implementation and daily management of the full-time enrichment program.

10.         Ensure enrichment program is regularly evaluated and continuously improved.

11.         Work with the Directorate and Founder of Wanicare Foundation to prepare budgets, proposals and manage allocated budget for PPSC.

12.         Work closely with the Directorate and Senior Management team on strategy, challenges and opportunities related to the wider foundation (YCKT) 

13.         Support and train new employees as required.

14.         Assist in the production of reports for relevant government departments, YCKT Core Partners and other supporters.

15.         Maintain internal animal records and databases (ZIMS).

16.         Assist the education team in organizing and implementing elements of the education and eco-tourism program, including on-site planning and supervision.

REQUIREMENTS
–             A degree in zoology, biology and conservation, animal behaviour or a related field;
              or equivalent proven work experience.
–             Proven experience working with a variety of species in a zoo, rescue center or similar environment.
–             A strong interest in animal welfare and conservation, guided by high ethical standards and responsible  animal management.
–             Excellent administrative and organizational skills.
–             Knowledge of wildlife and habitat conservation, particularly relating to Southeast
              Asian conservation issues.
–             Understanding of Indonesian regulations regarding wildlife rescue and conservation is advantageous.
–             Good command of the English language (spoken and written); Indonesian language is an advantage.
–             Flexibility and the ability to cope with a heavy workload, including weekend work and possible nightshifts, and to multitask in a demanding environment.
–             Ability to live and work under simple conditions in a rural area. Previous experience living and/or working in low- and middle-income countries and/or tropical climates is an advantage.
–             Strong teamwork skills and the ability to work in a multicultural environment.

CONTRACT DETAILS
Full time position based at Cikananga Wildlife Center, West Java, Indonesia.
Preferred start date: as soon as possible.

CONDITIONS
Housing: Shared house with private room provided. Located in Cikananga.
Work schedule: 07.00 – 11.30 and 13.00 – 16.00. Six days per week, with flexibility as required and on-call availability for emergencies.
Probation period: Three-month probation period. After the probation period, either party can choose to continue or terminate the employment without providing any specific reason.
Salary:
From IDR 4.000.000 up to IDR 6.000.000. per month depending on experience (Salary is reduced by 20% during the probation period); Visa costs, and once-a-year a flight ticket will be covered.
