Wildlife Internships at Cikananga

Internship at Cikananga Wildlife Center

There are many opportunities for international and national students to complete internships at Cikananga. We regularly host veterinary interns, and those needing to undertake a specific project as part of their internships. We also welcome interns who focus on marketing, communications, and wildlife filmmaking. We would also like to encourage interns with an interest in our sustainability program to apply.

Wildlife Internships; Ecology, Conservation and Veterinary

For intermediate vocational education and bachelor-level education, we offer internships for animal / nature / conservation / veterinary (-assistant) and similar studies. We are an Aequor licensed learning institute and many students have attended the program as part of their internship. We also have experience with Masters projects and welcome students from all levels of study. Our staff can support all aspects of projects undertaken at Cikananga Wildlife Center, ranging from project development to data analysis.

If you are interested, please contact us and we can discuss your project prior to your arrival. Please note that there are assignments listed below, but you are welcome to come up with your own internship idea.

Internship Requirements

Internship students are required to fulfil a specific assignment that is related to the official curriculum of their university/school. To apply please send your assignment proposal, motivation letter, and curriculum vitae to the center by email.

Please note that students usually participate in the volunteering program tasks alongside their assignments, or as a part of their assignments.

Affordable Price and Benefits

We try to keep pricing affordable: We firmly believe that an experience with wildlife should be within reach of everyone who wants to learn about wildlife, international and local. Please find the current pricing in the PDF volunteer guide below. The small profit we make from the program enables us to pay the keepers, maintain the facilities and provide medical care for the wildlife animals.

The accommodation is two wooden dormitories with a private area for every volunteer and intern, toilet and washing facilities, and a large canteen with a spectacular view over the rice fields.

Guideline

In this guide, we give you some background on Cikananga and the program for volunteers and interns from all over the world. There is information about daily practicalities, facilities, pricing, preparation, your arrival, and contact information.

If you like to apply for the volunteer program please and e-mail it to wanicare.volunteering@gmail.com

Activities Around Cikananga

As well as fulfilling your duties within the center, there are also opportunities to explore the local area. We can organize activities around Cikananga, for example a visit and swim at Bibiljan waterfalls, where it is also possible to spot wildlife. It is possible to go caving with professional guides in the 1500 meter long cave and vertical caving, or have a guided walk in the amazing tea-field that are so typical for West-Java. It may also be possible to visit Gunung Gede, Pangrango, or Halimun Salak, where gibbons, leopards and many other wild animals still live.
